COVID-19 PPE Shortages

SHEA is calling on President Trump to use the full authority afforded under the Defense Production Act (DPA) to expand domestic production capacity of urgently needed personal protective equipment.

Support the STAAR Act (S. 2304)

SHEA supports passing S. 2304 to strengthen surveillance, data collection and sharing, and expanding the Prevention Epicenters to fight antibiotic resistance.

Modernizing Public Health Data

SHEA supports legislation that would authorize $100 million over ten years to modernize the nation’s antiquated public health IT and data management systems.

Preventing the Spread of Antimicrobial Resistance

SHEA urges the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to finalize the proposed Condition of Participation rule that would require all inpatient acute care hospitals to implement antibiotic stewardship programs.

National Healthcare Safety Network

SHEA urges Congress to increase funding for the National Healthcare Safety Network by 8% to $22.75 million in FY2020 and beyond.

Prevention and Public Health Fund

SHEA urges Congress to restore funding to the Prevention and Public Health Fund to the originally authorized funding level of $2 billion dollars in FY 2020 and beyond.

CDC Prevention Epicenters Program

SHEA urges Congress to strengthen and sustain the Prevention Epicenters to ensure continued investments in research to develop interventions and best practices that prevent the spread of healthcare-associated infections and antibiotic resistance.

Research Investments to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections

SHEA advocates strongly for federal investments in research for preventing HAIs. SHEA also encourages appropriate funding for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and funding for CDC grants for Prevention Epicenters.
